Antique French 1870-1871 Honor Medal
Commemorating the Franco-Prussian War and all who fought in it, this authentic French medal has stood the test of time. At over 100 years old, it's still beautiful in form and historic significance.
Designed and engraved by George Lemaire in 1911, the front of the medal depicts a woman soldier wearing the French wartime uniform and reads "REPUBLIQUE FRANCAISE." While the reverse was designed with sabres, cannons, anchors and the mast of a warship with text that reads "AUX DÉFENSEURS DE LA PATRIE" (English: "TO THE NATION'S DEFENDERS") and bears the dates of the Franco-Prussia War, 1870-1871.
